Narendra Modi- A self-made man
Narendra Modi is the first prime minister of India who was born in an independent India. He was born on 17 September 1950 in Vadnagar Of Gujrat. He is the 14th and current prime minister of India who has served as a chief minister of Gujrat during 2001-2014.
Narendra Modi became famous worldwide after showing his non-compromising attitude in Gujrat riot of 2002. His administration was criticized for the Gujrat riots, later Supreme Court’s appointed SIT (special investigation team) found no evidence against him. He is a Hindu nationalist and a member of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) & Rashtriya Swayam Sewak Sangh (RSS).
Modi led the BJP in general elections of 2014. BJP became the first single party to win a Lok Sabha election by majority after 1984. He is a member of parliament from Varanasi. His government brought the policy of Foreign Direct Investment in India which is one of the prominent achievement of his government.

Narendra Modi’s Early Life
Narendra Modi’s family is from Vadnagar, India. Vadnagar is in Mehsana district of Gujrat. He was born in a grocer’s family. His father’s name was Damodardas Mulchand Modi and Hiraben Modi was his mother. He was the third among six siblings. He used to accompany his father in selling tea at Vadnagar railway station. Later, he ran a tea stall with his brother. He did his schooling from Vadnagar only in 1987.

Narendra Modi’s wife is Jashodaben. He abdicated his home because of being forcefully married to her, after finishing school. He lived at various Hindu ashrams and maths of Swami Vivekananda and Ramkrishna paramhansa for two years. Vivekananda’s teachings have a huge impact on Modi’s life. After all of this, he came back and started working at his uncle’s canteen in Ahamdabad and became a full-fledged campaigner for RSS in 1971. During that year only, he also began working under the guidance of Laxman Rao Inamdar who introduced him to RSS and who was his political mentor. This sow the seed of his political career.

Early Political Journey of Narendra Modi in Gujrat
Before being assigned to BJP by RSS, Narendra Modi played a major role in campaigning against Indira Gandhi after the emergency. He became general secretary of RSS’s committee Gujrat Lok Sangharsh Samiti. During that period, he also wrote a book “Gujrat Ma Sangharsh”. It is one of Narendra Modi’s books, there are several more. In 1978, he was made RSS sambhag pracharak of Surat and Vadodara region. Later in 1979, he was sent to Delhi to write the RSS version of emergency. And in 1985 he was assigned to BJP by RSS.
Modi played a major role in the Ahamdabad municipal elections which in turn, became the reason behind Modi becoming the organizing secretary of Gujrat unit in 1987. In 1990, he became a member of BJP’s national election commission. He also organized Lal Krishna Advani’s Rath yatra and Murli Manohar Joshi’s Ekta Yatra.
In 1992, after having frictions with a BJP’s MP Shankar Singh Vaghela, he took a break from politics and started a school. He came back in politics because of Lal Krishna Advani’s insistence in 1994. On 27 February 2002, a train carrying mostly Hindu pilgrims arriving from Ayodhya after attending a religious ceremony which took place at the demolished Babri Masjid was attacked and burned near Godhra, killing 60 people. After the incident, Modi called it a terror attack by local Muslims in a public statement. The next day, Vishwa Hindu Parishad declared for a bandh, which spread Hindu Muslim violence in the region. Government’s decision of moving the dead bodies of train victims from Godhra to Ahemdabad further inflamed the violence, killing 790 Muslims and 254 Hindus.
