Biography of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel

In this article, we are discussing about Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was  a great leader of Indian National Congress and a remarkable figure in the Indian Freedom Struggle , then later he became India’s first Deputy Prime Minister and first Home Minister.

Vallabhbhai Patel’s Early Life:

Vallabhbhai  Patel  was born in Nadiad(Gujarat) on October  31, 1875(His birth anniversary is now known as National Unity Day or Rashtriya Ekta Diwas).

Sardar vallabhbhai patel belongs from a farmer’s family. In his early years, he was known as unambitious man. But then he proved them wrong.

He passed law examinations, often studying himself, with borrowed books.

He did law at Godhra, Borsad, and Anand in Gujarat. After that he earned the reputation of a skilled lawyer.

Patel early willingness to sacrifice for others

Sardar vallabhbhai patel had a dream for studying the law in England. He managed to get a ticket for England by using his savings.

However, he got the ticket but then he get to know that his elder brother also want to go to the England for studies.

Then he decide to give the ticket to his elder brother as his family is everything for him.

He always respect his each and every family member. He was also very caring and close to his older sibling.

Patel’s Journey to England

Two years after the death of his wife, when he was 36 years old(in 1911). He journeyed to England and move at the middle temple inn in London.

Patel finished his class then he completed the 36 month course in 30 months. While returning to the India , he settled in Ahemedabad and became most popular barrister in Gujarat.

He describes that his journey was so good in England as he got knowledge of many new things . He love the environment there. His journey was so memorable for him as he always miss those days, he said.

Sardar  Vallabhbhai  Patel’s role in the Indian Freedom Movement

During the time of freedom movement, he was not at all interested in politics or in the principles of Mahatma Gandhi.

However, meeting with Mohan Das Karam Chand Gandhi in Godhra (1917) that changes the life of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel .

After that he joined the Congress Party and got the post of the secretary of the Gujarat Sabha then later he became strength of Congress Party.

After that Gandhi told him to quit his job and join the movement to fight for taxes in Kheda in 1918.

Then he joined his Non – Cooperation Movement in 1920 and travelled a lot . He collected upto 1.5 million for the congress party fund.

Then a law was given by british officers to not hosting the Indian Flag.

When Mohan Das Karam Chand Gandhi came out of the prison, the Patel led the Satyagraha movement in Nagpur in 1923 against the britishers.

In the Bardoli Satyagraha movement in 1928 , Patel got the title of Sardar and was so popular in the whole country and still he is in our hearts.

In 1930, he got arrested during the Salt Satyagarha and put him there without and kind of proof.

During the Quit India Movement in 1942, some of the british officers arrested him.

And then in 1945 he came out of the prison with the entire committee of Congress Party at the fort in Ahmednagar , Gujarat.

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel as Congress President

Patel was selected as the president in the Congress party during the Gandhi – Irwin pact in 1931 session in Kara.

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was very happy when he got the opportunity to represent himself as the president of the Congress party at that time.

He make very useful laws while he was the president in the Congress Party like avoid untouchability and some fundamental rights .

Patel used his positon as the president in the Congress party to give back the lands to the farmers in Gujarat. All the members of Congress Party are fond of him as he was doing good for many peoples and make good rules and rights.

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel as Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister

Patel became the India’s first Deputy Prime Minister after the Independence of  the India.

He became the first Home Minister of India on the first anniversary of India’s Independence .

When he got the position of the first Home Minister , he organized many rights.

Nehru called him (the builder and the consolidator of the new India) as Sardar was responsible for 565 princely states.

Patel always live a simple and natural life even if he was having good positions in Indian politics.

Statue of unity as a tribute to Sardar Vallabhhai Patel

In the eyes of many leaders Biography of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Patel was very respectful and calm kind of person. So for the tribute for our one of the greatest leader BJP built the statue of unity .On the statue, he is wearing a traditional dhoti and shawl, towering over the river, Narmada.

That statue is of 182 metre and the statue of unity is also known as the world’s tallest statue.

Conclusion

Sardar was very selfless leader, he always think about the success of India.

He always help poor , sometimes he feed them.

He will always be remember in our minds and hearts.
